Sanchez Brothers: Picturess of the TORCHMEISTER

Carlos writes:
Adriaan and I had just about the same sense of humor, but his was a little darker or as Jason said more Dutch... Throughout the great years that I was fortunate enough to have known him he loved getting images that photoshopped him into. Here are a few for you guys to enjoy and celebrate such a great man who lived life by his rules and took shit for nobody.

A Story That Will Make You Feel Better

This is part of an email that Adriaan's son MO has sent me last week.
Hope Mo forgives me for posting it, but this story has made many friends of Adriaan feel a bit better, so I'd like to share. Mo: I hope we all get to see that goddamnit picture!
Wouter :

In a message dated 3/27/2009, MO writes:

Adriaan had to get to the hospital for treatments. It was very awkward and funny at the same time. He needed to be carried out by the ambulance, because we couldnt take him down. His leg is numb so walking or standing is a risk. Especially the narrow and steep Amsterdam stairway. But back up was too difficult to do so they had to get the firedepartment to hoist him in through the window. He was yelling MAKE PHOTOS GODDAMNIT! So we did. Dont have the pics yet. But as the night looked. It looked very Crewdson like. A lot of people a lot of preparations. His work office needed to be cleared in certain sections so that was a bit scary. All those big piles. All in all it ended well around 11, he was back in his bed.

The strip club was one of the few places where Adriaan declined food -- he was positive that we would all get food poisoning!

Wouter: Adriaan Hair Story

In November 2007: Adriaan was having (then successful) chemo.
I wrote him following email with an adjusted old story:

Adriaan woke up one morning,
looked in the mirror, and noticed he had only three hairs on his head.

Well," he said, "I think I'll braid my hair today"

So he did and had

a wonderful day.

The next day he woke up,

looked in the mirror and saw that he had only two hairs on his head.

"Hmmm," he said,

"I think I'll part my hair down the middle today?"

So he did and he had

a grand day.

The next day he woke up,

looked in the mirror and noticed that he had only one hair on his head.

"Well," Adriaan said,

"today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail."

So he did and he had

a fun, fun day.

The next day Adriaan woke up,

looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on his head.

"YEAH!" he exclaimed,

"I don't have to fix my hair today!"

ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.

It's about learning to dance in the rain.

.

Adriaan replied:

Geweldig voorbeeld

Helemaal mee eens !

Dank je !

adriaan

( " Wonderful example - I totally agree ! - Thank You ! - Adriaan " )

It is with great sadness that we announce Adriaan's passing. He left us with incredible memories and he achieved things most of us can only dream about. We will continue to love him and he will continue to be amongst us every day.

Newspaper this morning

.
Van der Have opende Torch in !984.

Sad Day

Since June 2007: Adriaan has been hijacked by a very rare cancer (Kahler / Multiple myeloma). His brave fight gave him another good year, which I was very fortunate to share most. But last night (April 3, 2009) he lost the fight in his sleep.
My heart is with his son Mo, wife Mitsy, his brother, his mother and all his many friends. Although we knew it coming, I am paralyzed by this devastating news. I can only slightly imagine what a huge gap his family must have to fill.
I understand Adriaan wanted to keep his funeral an intimate moment for his close family. But on May 30 (needs to be confirmed): Kunsthal Rotterdam will do a 25-years-Torch exhibition. Let's all meet there!
Hope this blogsite -where everyone should share their pictures and stories- can help us keep his legacy alive.
Adriaan was for me my big brother since more than 15 years. In next posts I will share some stories and pictures. Hope you all do too. Wouter
